On Sunday, March 30th, LiveWired, a leading presenter of new music in New York, in conjunction with Lovevolv Inc, present BURNT SUGAR: The Arkestra Chamber at 9:00 PM, BROOKLYN MIME TROOP at 11:30 PM, and UNTYTE at 1:00 AM to 2:00 AM, at Drom in NYC’s East Village. Doors open at 8:00 PM, LiveWired and Lovevolv are excited to debut short selections from their expanding video archives, featuring performances by such artists as: Sun Ra Arkestra, Burnt Sugar, Gary Lucas, Snehasish Mozumder and Dibyarka Chatterjee, 2nd Species, Kim Clarke, Kenny Wolleson, and others. Burnt Sugar: The Arkestra Chamber is the ultimate gumbo group. Burnt Sugar is Shapeshifted by Greg Tate, references may include at any moment: Sun Ra Arkestra, Parliament-Funkadelic, Bjork, Zappa, Hendrix, Butch Morris. Says ringleader Tate, 2008 has been a blowout busy year for Burnt Sugar--two sellout nights at 'The Kitchen' , an SRO performance at Paris' Son D'Hiver festival, a live film score presentation at Lincoln Center of legendary indie black film godfather Oscar Micheaux's 1927 silent feature 'Within Our Gates'. Recent gigs have also featured guest appearances by hometown heroes Vernon Reid and Maya Azucena alongside the ever-evolving Burnt Sugar. At Drom the band will be presenting material being prepped for their next studio album which shall include an insane cover of Joni Mitchell's ."All I Want" featuring the siren Lisala , a madcap meringue variation on Living Colour's "Love Rears Its Ugly Head" and a ree-dunk-u-lous version of Fishbone's 'Black Flowers' featuring Strong Island's own Abby Dobson. Brooklyn Mime Troop: “Render” feat. Susana Lei'ataua – voice, Pheeroan akLaff – drums; voice, Warren Smith - tympani, marimba, voice; Video by Tomas Casas. Susan was the communications specialist for the Royal New Zealand Ballet and recently the project leader of the Ngai Tahu Leadership Programme for the indigenous Maori iwi (tribe) Ngai Tahu. Lei’atua is the recipient of the New Zealand Fulbright Senior Scholar Award 2008 and the NYU Asian/Pacific/ American Institute 2007-2008 Artist-In-Residence. One of today’s foremost percussionists Warren Smith, has collaborated with many of the greatest Jazz, R & B, and Pop artists of all time, including Max Roach, Charles Mingus, Count Basie, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, and Janis Joplin.Brooklyn Mime Troop is a collaboration between Brooklyn-based drummer-composer Pheeroan akLaff, New Zealand-born actress and writer Susana Lei'ataua and master percussionist Warren Smith, confronting the shadow and light at work in our 21st century ethos and stasis (or lack thereof) with the thunderous and the serene. Melodic and cacophonous percussion and voice. Untyte feat.
