A Different Calendar Year

Hey Bloggers, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and those other holy days this time of year are here and according to that Gregorian calendar New Years Eve and New Years Day is just around the corner. I know because the calendar, the date on this computers clock, and all of those advertisings and listings in all of those newspapers says so. And with that New Years days usually comes what seems like a ton of New Years Day parties and celebrations to celebrate the ringing in and coming of the new year. And from what I recall, according to that Chinese New Year zodiac 12 year cycle calendar, it is also the year of the ox, I think. And its New Years Eve party time for another calendar year. And the admission prices of some of those New Years Eve events are usually priced well beyond my go to a party or an event budget sometimes to me and can be enough to have me just hiding out under a rock and going nowhere that day. And some of those New Years Events that are to be found in that City of new York are as follows:

Kwanzaa - It’s a Family Affair

University of the Streets, an oasis in the Lower East Side founded by the late visionary Muhammad Salahuddeen in 1967, which has promoted, encouraged and nurtured artists of all disciplines presents its First Annual Kwanzaa Festival "It’s a Family Affair", a fundraising event to support the organization’s efforts, on December 26th, 27th and 31st, 2008, and January 1st, 2009, at Headline performances include The Timelessness Project, Indie Recording Artist, Nhojj, Tony Award Nominee and Blue Note Recording Artist Ms. Elizabeth Withers and Jay Rodriguez’s Saxophone Choir. And there is an artist reception as part of this event December 28, 3pm, that I have a few pieces of artwork in also.

A 2010 New Years Eve

And according to that Gregorian calendar on the wall, that year of 2010 is almost here. And then there's 2012, that age of Aquarius, end of the Mayan calendar, end of the world or a new beginning depending on how one sees it, that should be making its way around in a couple of years. And I also know today is New Years Eve because this weeks special New Year's edition of Nonsense NYC event list from Jeff Stark and the Nonsense NYC staff with those above ground and underground events says so. And New Years day seems to be that party to end all and be all of days where there seems to be so many parties and then some. And so I though to post that Nonsense NYC calender of those cool, seemingly hipster events as follows:

XXXXX WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 30 XXXXX (Oh, I think December 30 was actually yesterday...)

New Years Eve Eve

Every year we cross a line representing the passage between "what we we have been" to "what we will be." We break our old habits and make resolutions to bring ourselves closer to what we want to become. This year we clench this passage with both hands and create a tradition that exalts both sides of this line and aptly name it New Years Eve Eve. This new day is for those that that are interested in making real connections to dive into the delightfully dizzyingly next year while holding strong to the things we've loved in the past. It is either continuing practice or a complete arrival destination. Come, adorn your face with shimmering beauty, hold a drink made with as much love as you are able to give, let your ears and eyes open sounds from the distant past and soon to be future, gawk at bowed backs of feathered bodies and politely turn to the one you've had stars for and ask them if you may press your moist lips against theirs. Expect to speak with playa lovers, world trave
lers, subversive leaders of the underground, high flying beauties, and generally glorious creatives.

Classical and neo-burlesque by Tiana. Long lost music by Viola da Gamba virtuoso, Laurence Pangaro. Spanish and Sud America classical guitar by Joshua Tennent. Human Wind Chime that responds to touch. The New Years Eve-eve midnight make-out tradition. Dancing music made by people and robots. Hand passed hors d'oeuvres. Homemade "Never Never Land" beer. New Years Eve-Eve tradition: You may confidently, respectfully, and openly ask anyone you see to kiss you during the 15 minutes after midnight.) Specialty cash and grande absinthe bar. Fireside pillow areas. Ornate face painting by Abby Weg.

Dress to Express (Think elegant depression era, futuristic speakeasy, playa dwelling Gatsby's, evening gowns and lights, feathers and shiny objects).

RSVP for address, Brooklyn
L train to Morgan station
8p-late, 8-9:30p free beer, 11:30p free champagne; $25, or $20 if you bring a letter written and addressed to yourself one year in the future

New Lost City

This party comes in four sections spread across two buildings.

Grit: Three warm floors of a former factory converted into a party paradise with hidden tea lounges, reckless rides, live art, cheap liquor, and dark dance-floors. The music here is a throw-back to the classic loft-parties, where live afro-beat mixes with stellar hip-hop and djs meet in the middle.

Glamor: Intelligent techno to breaks to deep dark house join in a 7,000 square foot loft with dripping video projections and female chandeliers (yes, there will be fire).

Ice: One hundred fifty cubic feet of false snow, Santas, and seditious elves mix with the Modern Dance Awareness Society to create a winter wonderland.

Fire: Stripper poles, piano lounges, aerial acts, casino games, and brass bands blend into a tribute to the forgotten underbelly of New York City.

Midnight: Begins with champagne bottles, fire acts, brass band explosions, dance-floor countdowns, kisses from strangers and -- for a chosen few -- a three course meal at the center of it all. This is the start of the best year of your life.

Performers include: Baja and Dry Eye Crew, the Hungry March Band, Stumblebum Brass Band, Raya Brass Band, Lady Circus with Fuct, Mikey Freedom Heart, and Mickey Western, Lauren Darling's Hungry for More, Michna, Fred P. aka the Black Jazz Consortium, Dunndee, John Margulies, Zemi 17, the Vintage DJ, and Joro Boro. Mister Saturday Night New Year's Eve

Say goodbye to the first decade of the third millennium and hello to 2010. It's A Mister Saturday Night New Year's Eve. We're tuning up our soundsystem for maximum output, serving up free drinks all night long, and playing the celebratory jams only fit for a night fueled by sparkling wine. Justin even has a New Orleans brass band version of Auld Lang Syne he might play before the ball drops, and we're sure Eamon's got some sneaky Irish New Year's tradition that he can share.

Our special guest is Omar S, one of the best DJs we've ever had at Mister Saturday Night. We think he'll be in a particularly celebratory mood - 2009 was pretty good to him. It was the year he released his Fabric mix and the year that he launched from being a staple of the Detroit underground to one of the most sought after DJs and producers in the world. He'll drop his first record right after the ball drops. Happy New Year, indeed.

A Different Calendar Year Again

And it's recycle this blog again in an attempt to maintain content for this blog and my other blog whenever blaghers block possible, as this is yet another one of those posts that found itself on this blog some time a while ago.

Okay, there aren't any events listed in this post as follows, as this is another one of those recycle this blog posts and those events that were of last year may or may not be this year also, though I am sure there are many holiday events to be found in holidayland this impending 2012 of a year. Happy Holidays.

A Different Calendar Year

Hey again bloggers, or whoever could be reading this blog. And I think I may have posted this blog entry on this blog before as this blog seems as if it wants to repeat itself each year with those holidays that roll around each year. And this post was also posted on my other blog some time a while ago as attempting to maintain more that one blog seems as if it wants to confuse me sometimes....
The holy day of Christ is here. And 2012 is almost near. (Okay, those days passed a few days ago according to that Gregorian calendar on the wall..). Now that year should be an interesting year. Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and those other holy days this time of year are here and according to that Gregorian calendar New Years Eve and New Years Day is just around the corner. I know because the calendar, the date on this computers clock, and all of those advertising's and listings in all of those newspapers says so. And some of those New Years Events that are to be found in my facebookaholicness in that City of new York are as follows. Okay, they are actually not as follows on this day on this blog. Though those events are to be found somewhere. Happy Holy Daze.

A Year End 2018

And I almost forgot about this blog for a second, as it has been a while since I signed in to this blog in an attempt to post something to maintain web 2.0 user generated content for this blagh and my other blagh whenever blaghers block possible. And what else is there that I can say about year ends and new years in all of the years that I have been blogging on this blog that has not already been said in the bloggers time that I have posted about new years day times before. Well, another Gregorian calendar year has come to pass here on planet earth. And in between being consumed with those holiday markets in that New York City area, reading the headline news of the day and being consumed with what seems like a Facebook, Twitter, social media and internet addiction, I find myself reflecting on the ghosts of the past, present and future to realize that even though life can be a struggle and that my New Years resolutions sometimes seem to wind up being one of those Realistic New Year's Resolutions that finds itself in one of those photos posted above, that there are some people with seemingly no New Years Resolutions at all who have taken their lives and who are no longer with us here on planet earth, as there seems to have been an epidemic of suicides, particularly in the squatter community here in New York City the past year or so of squatters and their kids and the stories of other squatter related suicides as well as hollywood and other suicides in the headline news in the past year or so of people ending their lives for whatever reason. Now I am no mental health professional but I do know that psychiatry kills and to abolish forced psych cia treatment and that psychiatry has its roots in nazi Germany and that for all things alternative to the mental death system, mindfreedom.org is a good website to visit, as I have blaghed about psychiatry and the mental death system on this blagh times before.  And as I ramble those other thoughts that come to mind on this New Years Eve 2018 day amidst all of the wishes of peace, love, prosperity, creative energy, good health and great happiness in the new year and beyond, those overpriced New Years Eve events are going on again this year in the New York City area and come to mind.  There's that annual Times Square New Years Eve event where one goes to see the ball drop that looks like one will be descending into a war zone police state with all of the polizei and drones that will be surrounding that event this year. And then there's Jeff Stark's nonsense nyc list again, with a list of those really cool independent New Year's Eve culture events in New York City that reads as follows:

XXXXX NOTE XXXXX

Rinsed presents:
Gusto NYE 2019
The private, low-key house party is the family vibe New Year’s Eve we’ve all been craving. No $100 tickets or bottle service foolery, legit taking over a legendary theater — turned someone’s crib (one of the last few around in this fair city …), and celebrating NYE the right way, with all our loves and zero fuckery.
No hyperbole on the venue, Steve Buscemi used to crack jokes here. A few feminist mud wrestling matches hosted by Andy Kaufman. Casual. These days the spot is actually an apartment, a relic of the old New York where you may just happen to stumble into a hidden blood diamond. He’s been generous enough to let us invite a hundred or so unruly friends and family members in and celebrate the New Year the only way we want to.
Including: an intoxicating 1-hour long open bar (11:30p-12:30a); dynamic music by some well-known DJs (we’re not telling you who); lights by Ocular Presence; and a giant head sculpture DJ booth (yes there’s a giant head inside, and it vapes).

Spectrum NYE: Diamonds Are Forever
We present Diamonds Are Forever, the final NYE spectacular of the Spectrum at the Dreamhouse. From the first party back in 2011 where all we had were two blown out speakers and 100 rough diamonds in that secret mirrored infinity room. Fast forward to 2018 its final metamorphosis and the project’s final physical resting place. We will be starting early and inevitably going until late. Come celebrate one last time in our sanctuary with Mazurbate, aCeb00mbaP, Mister Wallace, Gooddroid, Dicap, and A Village Raid.

The Roast of 2018
Say goodbye to 2018 in style with a lovingly irreverent comedy show where all the celebrities who died this year come back from the grave for one night only to roast each other senseless. If you’re easily offended, stay home. But if you want to see what kind of acerbic one-liners Stan Lee would aim at Stephen Hawking, then this is the show for you.
Hosted by Sam Evans as John McCain and Eli Sairs as Anthony Bourdain. Featuring J.P. McDade as Avicii, Maddy Smith as Kate Spade, Jacob Williams as Stephen Hawking, Chloe McGovern as Mac Miller, Carmen Lagala as Women’s Rights, Maria Wojciechowski as Romaine Lettuce, and Raanan Hershberg as Rosanne.

Mister Sunday Holiday Party
Theo Parrish will kick off the daytime part of this marathon club session, which stretches for over 24 hours starting at 6p on New Year’s Eve. With Physical Therapy, Nina BC, Matt Werth, Justin Carter, Hypnotic Spa, Eamon Harkin, Duane Harriott, DJ Voices, D. Tiffany, Christy Love, Beta Librae, and Anthony Naples.
We’ve had lots and lots and lots of fun times down this way in 2018, but we’re kissing them goodbye and rolling in the New Year with a fresh batch of those nice, heavy, heady party vibes that you’ve come to expect inside (and outside) these walls.
We’ve enlisted a big crew of our always incredible resident DJs and a few gifted guest selectors to set the pace for one major party that’ll kick off at 6pm on New Year’s Eve and go into New Year’s Day and likely beyond — no stopping at the bar, no stopping in the booth and no stopping on the dance floor. We’ll start the festivities with a special, communal-dinner-inclusive Planetarium session featuring RVNG boss Matt Werth, Nina BC of Working Women and Planetarium mastermind Justin Carter.
At 10pm we’ll switch gears with residents Beta Librae, Duane Harriott, Eamon Harkin, Anthony Naples and Physical Therapy joined by special guests Christy Love, Theo Parrish (who’ll be playing for six hours on New Year’s morning) and D. Tiffany for one massive session between the hi-fi stacks.
We’ll have tasty snacks from the kitchen to keep you nourished throughout, and there’ll be plenty of action out in the back yard, too – the fire pits will be roaring, the outdoor bar will have the hot drinks on lock, the sauna will be in full swing and there’ll be an ambient sunrise session in the the yurt from DJ Voices and Hypnotic Spa (that’s DJ Sofiia and Milo McBride for this occasion).
Tickets will be timed for this one, and there’s a full explanation below on how that will work. Nothing too complicated, but do have a read if you’re coming. Just remember that you must arrive between the hours listed on your ticket. Once you’ve come in during the designated window time on your ticket, you can come and go as you please. If you don’t enter during the time designated window of time, you’ll lose your spot and need to buy a new ticket (assuming there’s space inside). Once you’re inside, can also stay as long as you’d like as long as you abide by our safer space policy (more on that below).
